Objectives: To learn about why and how the tides occur.
Opening: The students will complete a warm up about tides: The tides are caused by the moon as it rotates around the earth. The moon’s gravity pulls the water and wherever the moon is, the water, rises in a bulge called the tidal bulge.
Engagement: The students will then complete a two column notes chart in their scientists notebook defining tides, the tide cycle, spring tides, and neap tides.
Closing: The students will be asked to observe a tide table and answer the questions at the bottom of the handout.
